Muslim and Roman heritage

La Alcazaba de Málaga de noche

The Alcazaba of Malaga is a fortress built by the Arabs in the 11th century. It’s a magnificent example of Islamic military architecture and provides a fascinating insight into the region’s history. On the other hand, the Roman Theatre, constructed in the 1st century BC, is one of the oldest remnants of Roman presence in the Iberian Peninsula and reflects the city’s cultural significance in antiquity.

The Alcazaba offers spectacular views of the city of Malaga, the port, and the Mediterranean Sea. Exploring its walls, towers, and gardens allows you to enjoy beautiful panoramas. Furthermore, you’ll notice how the Alcazaba blends with the nearby Gibralfaro Castle on the hill, creating a unique landscape.

Both the Alcazaba and the Roman Theatre have undergone extensive conservation and restoration efforts to preserve their historical and cultural value. These endeavors enable visitors to authentically experience how these sites appeared during their times of splendor.
