What are we going to discover on this free tour of Torremolinos?

In this Free Tour of Torremolinos, you will travel back to the beginnings of tourism in Spain. The tourist boom of the 1960s and 70s turned this small fishing village into a symbol of Spanish and international summer relaxation.

What will we see on this Free Tour?

On this Free Tour, we will start our journey back in time at Plaza San Miguel, where we’ll take a historical retrospective. Continuing our path, we will reach the Torre de los Molinos, which gives the city its name, and then head to Pueblo Blanco, an emblematic place.

We’ll stroll through La Nogalera from a different perspective, stopping at the legendary Barbarela nightclub.

As we pass through the city center, you’ll discover the iconic venues for the best music of the time, where bands from all over Europe used to perform, entertaining establishments from Pasaje Pizarro to La Nogalera while securing record deals in their countries.

As the culmination of this journey through time, we will arrive at Pasaje Begoña, where you will walk through the place where an event took place that forever changed Torremolinos during the golden era of the Tourist Boom, our Spanish Stonewall.

Subsequently, we will travel back to the sun and beach days of Bajondillo, concluding our journey in Plaza Costa del Sol, surrounded by murals of legends from that era.

In short, a walk filled with meaning, nostalgia, and perhaps hope for the present that you cannot miss.

Resolve your doubts about the free tour

The meeting point is located at Plaza de la Nogalera No. 5, where you will find us next to the city map wearing a turquoise green polo.

We recommend arriving a few minutes early to start the tour on time.

A Free Tour is a guided tourist route through the main points of a city where a fixed fee is not required.

It is the walker who decides the price to pay once the visit is finished, depending on their means or whether they liked it or not.

  • If you are not sure how much is usually paid, it is common to give around 5€-10€-12€ per person.

We recommend canceling at least 24 hours in advance of the visit date so the guide can accommodate visitors who may have missed a spot for that day.

Cancel your spot by sending an email to:

reservas@malagaatodacosta.com

In case of rain, the visit will be canceled with prior notice to the reserved visitors.

From fishing village to myth

With this beautiful city at the epicenter of the phenomenon that emerged in the 1960s, and in a Spain that was desperately seeking cultural evolution and opening up to the world, the coast became a gateway for tourists who brought new influences at all levels (musical, personal, blending of customs).

During the dictatorship, Torremolinos played a significant role in the social and cultural change that Spain needed, opening the door to freedom, excess, and diversity, making it the most open and cosmopolitan enclave in Spain. Here, people slept during the day and lived at night.

Half of Hollywood strolled its streets, with the Hotel Pez Espada as a meeting point, as well as sheiks and millionaires of the time.

With limitless real estate expansion came the ‘Architecture of Relaxation,’ constructions built primarily for tourism purposes. The Hotel Pez Espada is a prime example of this. Half of Hollywood from that era stayed in its rooms, along with sheiks and millionaires.
